About Me
Aloha! My name is John Ruiz. I was born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Currently, my work focuses on filmmaking and visual storytelling. My journey as an artist started in college as I obtained my BA with a focus in graphic design. While in school, I was also a part time dancer at Hypersquad For Life, a nationally recognized studio. I managed their social media and other media based platforms for marketing.
As I got more familiar with other filmmakers within the industry, I fell in love with storytelling in video format. I started out my film work with dance cinematography.
As a former dancer and choreographer, I wanted to take the time to understand the essence and purpose of one’s work and capture it in a unique way while properly telling their story. I further developed my craft with wedding filmmaking, and now working with Redefined Weddings to capture momentous events.
Beyond weddings, I’ve helped capture profitable business commercials and marketing materials that reflect the value of a company.
What I value most in my work is to help curate beautiful stories that people can proudly share and appreciate. I really enjoy camera operation and editing, witnessing the raw moments of what I capture. As I continue my journey within this field, my constant reminder is to be purpose driven and always do work with intention with new people I meet.
